Saturday night, a film called Prayers for Bobby debuts on Lifetime. The movie is based on a nonfiction book by the late Leroy Aarons, founder of the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association. (I knew Roy and served five years on the NLGJA national board.)
From Lifetime:
Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Sigourney Weaver stars in this emotional true story about a 1970s religious suburban housewife and mother who struggles to accept her young son Bobby being gay. Premieres January 24 at 9 pm et/pt
Focus on the Family's predictable reaction:

I knew Roy also, and I'm a close friend of his life partner, Joshua. Did you know that Roy's website is live and updated, thanks to Josh?

I read Prayers for Bobby when it first came out in 1996, then I re-read when I heard that the Lifetime movie was about to air. It's just as powerful and relevant now as when it was first published.
