South Florida producer-writer-director Fred M. Caruso brings home ‘The Big Gay Musical’

Hometown Boy brings his movie, THE BIG GAY MUSICAL, to South Florida.

With a cast of incredible Broadway talent, The Big Gay Musical will open at the Sunrise Cinemas Gateway Theatre on October 23, 2009.  Drama Desk Nominee, Fred M Caruso, who was born and raised in South Florida, produced, wrote, and co-directed the film.  It was also co-directed by Casper Andreas, and features the Choreography of Shea Sullivan, the Songs of (Drama Desk Nominee) Rick Crom, the Costumes of (Tony Nominee) Bobby Pearce, the Cinematography of Jon Fordham, the Production Design of Jason Courson, and the Musical Direction of Jack Aaronson. The Big Gay Musical is a hilarious story that mixes backstage drama, conservative religious families, coming out, coming to terms, and tap dancing angels!

Eddie and Paul have just begun previews for the new Off-Broadway musical “Adam and Steve Just the Way God Made ‘Em.” When life begins to imitate art.  Eddie is dealing with how his sexuality and religious upbringing can mix and Paul is looking for the perfect man. Eddie comes out to his family and Paul goes on Manhunt. Eddie’s parents are destroyed by the news and Paul can’t even have a good one-night stand. But after fun production numbers, a retelling of Genesis, tele-evangelists, a camp that attempts to turn gay kids straight, and a bunch of showtunes, everyone realizes that life gets better once they accept who they really are. And they are just the way God made ‘em.

Fred M Caruso began as an actor in South Florida at the age of six.  He worked in theatre, movies, commercials, print work, voice overs, etc.  At age 14, he began producing theatre.  He produced directed and starred in a broadway revue called FMC and Co. at the Hollywood Playhouse.  He continued producing in Florida, opened a theatre, toured shows through the condominium circuit, and then graduated from Chaminade-Madonna and went to NYC to go to New York University.  After working as actor all over the country, he got back to producing.  He produced the Drama Desk Nominated revue NEWSical, What in the World, and the Off Bway Hit, I Love You Because.   He then got into film making, working behund the camera and co-producing, A Four Letter Word, and was the assistant director on Clear Blue Tuesday and Between Love and Goodbye

Casting Director Michael Cassara has assembled Liz McCartney (Taboo, South Pacific), Jim Newman (Curtains, Minnelli on Minnelli), Joey Dudding (A Chorus Line, La Cage), Marty Thomas (Xanadu, Wicked, The Secret Garden), Andre Ward (Xanadu,Saturday Night Fever), Daniel Robinson (Hairspray), Jeff Metzler (Mary Poppins), Brian Spitulnik (Chicago), Josh Cruz (Wig Out), Celina Carvajal (Tarzan, Dracula & Reality TV show The Search for Elle Woods), Steve Hayes, one of the stars of the mega-hit Gay film Trick, and let's not forget Michael Musto and Brent Corrigan.
