Wilton Manors, FL (November 9, 2009) – The GLCC/Pride Center together with SunServe are collaborating with the YMCA of Broward County, Safe Schools South Florida and Equality Florida to host their first ever Youth Symposium. The Symposium, which is titled, “Trapped in the Margins: Challenges of Meeting the Needs of Broward’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Youth”, will provide attendees with information to assist in understanding the needs and social circumstances of LGBT youth in Broward County as well as the significant challenges associated with efforts to respond to those needs.
Attendees will include medical and clinical professionals, elected officials, youth service providers, business owners and legal and protective service professionals. The general public is encouraged to attend this event. The symposium will include speeches and case studies from experts in youth services on effective strategies being implemented in other communities to deal with LGBT youth issues.
The symposium will be held at the new GLCC/Pride Center (2040 N. Dixie Highway, Front Building) on Friday, November 13, 2009 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. For more information about this event or to RSVP, please contact Linda Jain at 954-463-9005.
ABOUT THE GLCC/PRIDE CENTER: The Pride Center at Equality Park occupies nearly six acres of property with approximately 30,000 square feet of office space in the heart of Wilton Manors. The waterfront property is located about four blocks from Wilton Drive and will be known as Equality Park. As a cornerstone of the LGBTQI communities, Equality Park will provide a home for individuals, programs and services, as well as synergy among organizations. Equality Park will become a community destination and meeting place, further establishing the organization as a leader in LGBTQI unity, inclusiveness and pride. The new campus will increase meeting room capacity, expand cyber center and HIV Testing, upgrade volunteer and staff work areas, and contain office space for other community groups. The rear building is presently leased to non-profit tenants who also serve and support the LGBTQI community, and will provide essential revenue to Equality Park.
