Johnny Diaz, author of 'Boston Boys Club' gay novel series, among honorees at Miami Dade College alumni dinner

Miami Dade College alumni dinner 003

My partner, Ric Katz, and I  attended the 2010 annual Miami Dade College Alumni Hall of Fame dinner, held this year at the Hilton near downtown Miami. My friend and former Miami Herald colleague Johnny Diaz, who now writes for The Boston Globe and is author of gay romance novels including Boston Boys Club and Miami Manhunt, received this year’s Literary Arts honor.

In the photo above, Johnny steps up to accept his award. Below are several other pictures I took during the evening. All photos by STEVE ROTHAUS / Miami Herald Staff.

Miami-Dade College is a multi-million dollar institution and how ironic that the president earns over $1.2 million a year, but then again, the staff at the MIDI electronics lab have to invest their own money to fix the items in the labs. Also including, the Writing Lab at MDC Kendall Campus didn't have enough money in the "budget" to purchase paper, thus students could not print. Isn't that something to think about, right? Ironically the "most important man" in these photos is a two bit bureaucrat con artist. Why doesn't the board cut his salary and actually put the funds to good use for once...
