Attorney General Bill McCollum personally requested that the state’s Department of Children and Families hire antigay psychologist George Rekers at $300 an hour as an expert witness to defend Florida’s ban on gay people adopting, records show.
“Our attorneys handling this case have searched long and hard for other expert witnesses with comparable expertise to Dr. Rekers and have been unable to identify any who would be available for this case,” McCollum wrote in 2007 to then-DCF Secretary Bob Butterworth.
The Herald needs to get rid of this pervert and his sex columns. He will find a more appropriate audience in the adult magazines where this smut is more appropriate. Families and children should be able to read their hometown paper without having to worry about coming across such disgusting material.

America is an amazing country. Here is an honest and utterly professional journalist who shows the corruption and hypocrisy of anti-gay men who hire prostitutes from RentBoy and other services, and what do the fundamentalist Freds of this country do? KILL THE MESSENGER who now gets labeled "pervert."
The stupidity and ignorance of the Freds of this beautiful country are very much part of the immaturity of this society which has gotten all of us into trouble, yet the victims and the messengers get blamed. I hope that Steve Rothaus will continue his important work without worrying about the nastiness that surfaces here and there.

Steve Rothaus is a gay rights advocate who maintains a blog advocating gay rights. So why is he permitted to write news stories on gay issues for the Herald? Isn't that a conflict of interest? This story is another example of his biased work. It is one thing to write commentary on his blog. It's another to write so-called objective news articles for the paper.

Fred, Is that you Mr. Phelps?
Diggy, find anything that Steve wrote and challenge its veracity. You can't. In case you've been out of town or only get to the library once a month to use the computer, most all the major media has reported on this story. I suggest that if you don't like this blog, use your precious time at the library to view the 700 Club website or something, okay Sugs?

This guy really is a sick individual and obsessed with sex. Not a day goes by without him writing stories about sex. I agree he should be writing for some porno magazine, not a newspaper.
