Ros-Lehtinen: 'Everyone deserves equal treatment and protection, regardless of sexual orientation'

News release from U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen:

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a senior member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, issued the following statement after the House voted to repeal the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy.

Ros-Lehtinen’s statement:

“I have long been a leader in the fight to repeal the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy. Today I was pleased to vote to end this discriminatory measure, one that has forced more than 13,500 young, patriotic Americans, from service in our armed forces. Sexual orientation does not affect the ability to perform in combat. Our service members are willing to put their lives on the line for our country and they should know that we support them.

I believe everyone deserves equal treatment and protection under our laws and our Constitution, regardless of their sexual orientation. Today, through this vote, I am proud to say we have made a positive step toward this noble goal.”
