Dance icons Edward Villella and Bob Avian at Miami City Ballet opening at Broward Center

Two American dance legends, ballet star Edward Villella and A Chorus Line co-choreographer Bob Avian, attended Friday's opening of the Miami City Ballet's 25th anniversary season at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Villella was with wife Linda, director of the Miami City Ballet school; Avian with partner Peter Pileski, assistant director of A Chorus Line's 2006 Broadway revival.

Miami City Ballet performed three pieces Friday: Fanfare choreographed by Jerome Robbins; Bugaku choreographed by George Balanchine; and Theme and Variations, also by Balanchine. The pieces will be performed again Saturday and Sunday at the Broward Center and Nov. 19-21 at Kravis Center in West Palm Beach.

Villella, Miami City Ballet's founding artistic director, greeted Broward arts patron and Fanfare presenter Rose Miniaci after the performance.
