Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus to present all-male 'Best Little Whorehouse in Texas' April 1 & 2

News release from The Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus:

The Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus is excited to announce that tickets are now on sale for its production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas…with a Twist!, to be held Friday, April 1st and Saturday, April 2nd, at Parker Playhouse. Fresh from an exuberantly received Holiday Concert under the direction of Todd Wiley, an all-male cast promise to sing, dance and "Yee Haw" their way into your hearts, while putting their spin on a classic story. The twist? All roles, including those traditionally played by women, will be played by men.

“The chorus has spent 25 years entertaining our community by singing and dancing, so taking on a full production of a musical seemed to be the logical next step,” says Wiley, Director of The Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus for the past ten years, and producer of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas...with a Twist! “We are committed to providing an evening that entertains and inspires people of all backgrounds and ideas to celebrate living together as a community.”

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas...with a Twist! is based on the true story of a legendary Texas Brothel known as the Chicken Ranch, which operated from the 1840s to 1973. Protected by a friendly Sheriff and frequented by politicians, football teams and others, the Chicken Ranch thrived in the small town of Gilbert, Texas. Boys come from all over to work at the ranch for Miss Mona and make a little extra cash. However, a crusading do-gooder Houston radio and TV commentator and his conservative audience threaten to expose the Chicken Ranch.

Directed by Peter Damien Loza, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas...with a Twist! will be a unique entertainment experience for both performers and audience members filled with singing and dancing to favorites like "Texas Has a Whorehouse in It," "The Sidestep" and "Hard Candy Christmas." This can't-miss production, intended for mature audiences, will bring out your inner cowboy, challenge your way of thinking and touch your heart.

Performances will begin at 8 p.m. on April 1st and 2nd at Parker Playhouse, 707 NE 8th Street, Fort Lauderdale. Tickets are $25, $35 and $45, plus $1.50 parking fee and any handling charges that may apply. Tickets are now available through the Parker Playhouse website www.parkerplayhouse.com, the Broward Center Box Office in person or at (954) 462-0222, from www.TheFTLGMC.org or through chorus members.

Celebrating its 25th Anniversary Season, The Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus is the oldest gay organization in Florida, founded in April 1986. Our mission is to build community through quality musical performances and community involvement, promoting a world that accepts and values diversity. Funding for this organization is provided in part by the Broward County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council, the John Graves Foundation, the Community Foundation of Broward and Pride South Florida.
