President Barack Obama has just appointed U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston, chair of the Democratic National Committee, Politico reports.
Last year, gay-rights group Equality Florida honored Wasserman Schultz with a Voice for Equality Award.
"She's with us, an absolute champion when it comes to equality, first as a legislator in Florida," Equality Florida Executive Director Nadine Smith said in 2010. "She's brought that fighting spirit to Washington, D.C. She was with us on hate crimes, ENDA [Employment Non-Discrimination Act], marriage equality. She's a founding member of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus."

I am also a constituent of Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. I look forward to her re-election as my Representative and as head of the Democratic National Committee. She has the skill set, the tenaciousness, and the brilliant mind necessary to restore the Democratic Party to its proper place in American society...that is, the Party of the working person, the parent, the schoolteacher, the Postal worker, the trash collector...everyday, ordinary Americans. YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!
