David Richardson of Miami Beach wins House race, becomes Florida's first openly gay legislator

David Richardson of Miami Beach has become Florida's first openly gay state legislator.

Richardson, a certified public accountant, will represent House District 113 in Miami Beach.

As of 11 p.m., with 53 of 53 precincts reporting, Richardson led three challengers with 33 percent of the vote. Mark Weithorn had 27 percent; Adam Kravitz had 24 percent; and Waldo Faura had 16 percent.

There is no Republican opponent.
