It was his first official visit back last spring, and by the time he watched them defeat the University of Miami in last week’s Champ Sports Bowl in Orlando, St. Thomas Aquinas running back James White knew that the University of Wisconsin was the right for fit for him.
On Sunday, the gifted 5-10, 195-pound running back made his choice, and the decision was easy.
“Wisconsin is like family,” White said. “I knew from my two visits there it would be a perfect fit for me.”
White, who will play in next week’s Nike Miami-Dade/Broward All-Star game at Flanagan High, sat in the stands at last week’s bowl game and watched the Badgers come out and play hard against the Hurricanes. While he was sure heading into that game, by the end of the night, he was convinced.
“It’s an opportunity for me to play for a program that fits my running style,” White pointed out. “It’s the players, coaches, fans, campus, academics and direction the program is headed. I loved it all.”
In three years as a player for the Raiders, White saw his team post an amazing 43-1 record, which included a national championship and two state titles.
He chose Wisconsin over Clemson, Michigan State and North Carolina State.
