HERALD SPOTLIGHT: Avery Johnson

Avery Johnson1
Having the opportunity to watch many of the athletes in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties when they begin playing football at the youth football level, the Miami Herald will continue to shine the spotlight on many athletes during the pre-spring, spring and summer.

With the chance to see the athletes away from the football field as well, we can bring you up close and personal with some of the top prospects in the nation - right here in our own backyard.

Don't forget that the exposure continues on FACEBOOK (Herald Recruiting) and via Twitter @ larryblustein.

PLAYER: Avery Johnson

YEAR: 2012

SCHOOL: Blanche Ely

CITY: Pompano Beach

POSITION: WR

HEIGHT: 6-2.5

WEIGHT: 185

HEAD FOOTBALL COACH: Rodney Gray

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Like many of the athletes in South Florida, we have been able to watch and evaluate this quality football talent since he competed at the youth football league level.

Has played at elite level for a number of years in high school, often picking things up from his father, who is a coach, and his brother, Patrick Peterson, who is regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in the nation.

Although Johnson needs to continue to work on his concentration when catching the ball, his impressive speed (4.43), leaping ability and improved route running has kept this early LSU commitment in the spotlight.

If he continues to work hard and reach his potential, there is little doubt that he will take his talents a long way!
