Having the opportunity to watch many of the athletes in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties when they begin playing football at the youth football level, the Miami Herald will continue to shine the spotlight on many athletes during the pre-spring, spring and summer.
With the chance to see the athletes away from the football field as well, we can bring you up close and personal with some of the top prospects in the nation - right here in our own backyard.
Don't forget that the exposure continues on FACEBOOK (Herald Recruiting) and via Twitter @ larryblustein.
PLAYER: Kolby Gray
YEAR: 2012
SCHOOL: Fort Lauderdale
CITY: Fort Lauderdale
POSITION: WR
HEIGHT: 6-0
WEIGHT: 180
HEAD FOOTBALL COACH: Richard Dunbar
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Here is one of those emerging players who we watched last season and started to notice how impressive he truly is over the past two months.
An impressive route runner who also can jump and create separation with his quickness and knowledge of the position.
Because he is still learning, many of his catches get too far into his body, but as he learns to use his hands more in the entire process, he has a chance to be very special.
While he still needs to learn to block more up field, his coaches love that he can make adjustments to catching the ball, and are excited that he is starting to become more of a compete receiver.
He is already being looked at by a number of BCS schools, which will continue attract more in the spring - and into the summer.
