After closing its doors in Summer 2008 for renovation, Bayfront Park Amphitheater in Downtown Miami is on the verge of reopening.
After a multi-million dollar makeover, the 6,000 capacity venue, owned by the City of Miami and now being managed by Live Nation, promises permanent reserved seating, VIP boxes, new restroom and concession facilities, and better sight-lines of the stage and Biscayne Bay.
This change is great news for Miami's concert fans. The venue always provided spectacular views (especially during nighttime shows) of the bay and downtown's skyline, but lacked in amenities and production capabilities.
Miami Herald photographer Peter Andrew Bosch got a sneak peek at the venue Thursday. His photos reveal a much different looking stage, with a higher roof and more space for the performers.
The first two shows at the venue will be Incubus (August 16) and Counting Crows (August 18).
When told of the amphitheater's renovation, Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger had this to say:
“I really dig that venue. I love when there is an outdoor concert venue in the middle of the city. Most of the places we’re doing are about twice or three times that size.”
He praised the intimacy of the venue, and said Incubus is excited to be the first band to play there.
Look for my complete Incubus story with Einziger next week: He talked about going back to school, surgery on his hand, Miami's weather, and Prince.
