Michael Schiavo on the campaign trail

The husband of Terri Schiavo, the severely brain-damaged woman whose plight fueled fierce debates in Tallahassee and Washington last year, is headlining an Aug. 19 fundraiser for Florida House candidate Martin Kiar.

Michael Schiavo is fufilling his pledge to campaign against politicians who tried to stop him from withdrawing his wife's feeding tube after 15 years. Kiar, a Davie attorney, is running against Republican state Rep. Susan Goldstein of Weston, who supported intervening in the Schiavo case.

So did Democratic U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, prompting Schiavo to rally last month with challenger Ned Lamont. Schiavo has also sent out fundraising appeals on behalf of Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Davis' campaign for governor.
