U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Weston Democrat getting lots of national publicity as a rising star, found one of her lighter moments in Congress mocked on late-night television last night.
In a bit titled "Meet the Clockers,'' Daily Show host Jon Stewart poked fun at the new Democratic majority's ambitious agenda for the Congress' first 100 hours. The show showed clips of lawmakers squandering some of their precious time on the floor.
Wasserman Schultz, who earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Florida, gave a bubbly cheer for her alma mater's football championship.
"Two bits, four bits, six bits a dollar,'' she chanted. "All for the Gators, stand up and holler. Go Gators!"
She then put on a pair of glasses with fake eyeballs attached with springs. You'd have to see it to believe it: Go to www.nationaljournal.com and click on Play of the Day if you have a password. If not, the clip will be here later today.
