Florida's tax burden

Florida ranks 39th in the amount of state and local taxes it charges, according to a new analysis that is on www.msn.com this morning. The story notes that people come to Florida not just because of its sunny weather but because it has no estate tax and no income tax. To read the story, go here.

But the picture gets a little more trickier with property taxes. The story ranks Florida as 22nd in the amount of property taxes charged, but it is 28th when figured as a percentage of home value. But Florida's service-driven economy raises the state's rank to 19th when the taxes are calculated as a percentage of income.
