Lieberman bashes Obama on Iran

Who better to criticize the presumptive Democratic nominee's speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee than the longtime Israel defender/former Democratic vice presidential nominee-turned John McCain ally?

In a telephone call with reporters, Sen. Joe Lieberman assailed Barack Obama for voting against his own legislation that designated Iran's armed forces as a terrorist organization.

Obama's web site says he opposed the amendment "which says we should use our military presence in Iraq to counter the threat from Iran. Obama believes that it was reckless for Congress to give George Bush any justification to extend the Iraq War or to attack Iran. Obama also introduced a resolution in the Senate declaring that no act of Congress – including Kyl-Lieberman – gives the Bush administration authorization to attack Iran."

But Lieberman noted that Democratic party leaders in the Senate supported the amendment, as well as Hillary Clinton.

"If you look at the amendment, it has none of that regarding military action,'' he said. "I was hoping and I still hope he will say that vote was a mistake.''
