More Miami-Dade Commission candidates

Following up on the earlier post about Miami-Dade commission races, two more candidates jumped into the fray on Monday.

David Patlak, who has run in the past as "Big Dave," opened a campaign against Bruno Barreiro. Patlak, a Coast Guard veteran, ran unsuccessfully against Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen in 2006 and lost a Democratic primary to challenge her in 2004.

Perrine community activist Martin Lampkin filed papers to challenge Dennis Moss in South Dade.

Seven of the 13 commissioners' terms expire this year; all are seeking re-election. Only Carlos Gimenez, Natacha Seijas and Barbara Jordan are still unopposed, but it is not clear whether all the challengers in the other races will collect enough signatures or pay the fee to qualify for the ballot.

Candidates for county mayor and commission can declare until June 13, and the election is scheduled for Aug. 26.
