Sansom out as Lincoln Day feature

The Leon County Republican Party is scrapping plans to honor Rep. Ray Sansom at its Lincoln Day reception next Wednesday at the Governor's Club.

Chairman Dan Abel said he is trying to get new Speaker Larry Cretul or Rep. Dean Cannon or Senate President Jeff Atwater.

"We definitely stand by him," Abel said of Sansom. There are scores of lawmakers who have jobs at colleges, he said. As for the money Sansom got the college, "he was representing his constituency. And then they offered him a job that he was qualified for. I expect he will be vindicated." So why not honor Sansom anyway? "From a PR standpoint ... we're out there to raise money for the party. People want to hear from a person in power."
