Greer stands by his man

With Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele fending off criticism over his third perceived gaffe in recent weeks, one of his top allies -- Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer --is telling his critics to lay off.

Steele has taken flak for criticizing radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, suggesting he would run primary challengers against Republican incumbents who supported the stimulus package, and giving a magazine interview in which he called abortion a "choice."

Writes Greer in a letter to RNC members: "What I find so disturbing is that some Republicans cannot see the absolute necessity of providing unwavering loyalty and support to Chairman Steele as he embarks upon leading the Republican Party into the future...It is not constructive to launch assaults on the transition process or promote division within our party by openly criticizing our new chairman."
