Gov. Charlie Crist has already approved a budget for next year that raises community college tuition by 8 percent, but today he vetoed a bill that also would have allowed community colleges to charge students a transportation fee of up to $200 more each year.
In his letter vetoing HB 739, Crist says he is concerned the fee would be charged to all students -- not just those who benefit from the transportation the fees help finance. He also cites "these challenging economic times" as a factor in his decision.
