Health care summit looks at D.C. reforms' affect on Fla.

Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty will kick off a health care summit Monday aimed at examining the impact of federal health insurance reform on Florida, where Medicaid costs already are rising and projected to get higher.

The Florida Association of Health Underwriters is hosting the summit, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Leon County Civic Center.

TV news reporter Mike Vasilinda, whose wife is a House rep, will moderate the summit, which will feature four panel discussions covering the perspectives of providers, regulators, legislators and consumers.

Participants include the Florida Medical Association, the AARP, Sen. Don Gaetz, and Florida Consumer Advocate Shawn Shaw.
