President Barack Obama's job approval is a negative 40 to 54 percent -- his lowest point ever in Florida and down from a 50 -45 percent approval rating April 19 -- after his call for increased offshore drilling.
The Gulf spill "almost certainly" is responsible for Obama's sinking rating, said pollster Peter Brown. "Voters disapprove 54 -37 percent of the way Obama is handling the spill."
The Quinnipiac University poll also found both Bill McCollum 42- 34 percent and Rick Scott 42-32 percent leading Democrat Alex Sink in the race for governor. A three-way with independent Bud Chiles "scrambles the race considerably" -- but was tested only after Chiles announced his candidacy and has a larger sampling error than the rest of the poll.
