Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen will make her first foreign trip as House Foreign Affairs Committee to Haiti, touching down Tuesday -- one day before the anniversary of the earthquake.
The Miami Republican says she hopes to get a progress report on work in the country; as well as a briefing on the continuing election controversy. The Obama administration late last week shifted position and said it's not ruling out that it could support a new election for the country.
"It's important that I'm able to go to Haiti, a country that's near and dear to the U.S.," she said. "It's very important to U.S. interests and we have a vested interest in seeing that stablity, democracy and free enterprise take root there."
