Scott visits Opa-locka charter school

Two days after officially taking office, Gov. Rick Scott he toured an Opa-locka charter school promising students, parents and teachers that change is coming to Florida's education system.

``Education needs to be 100 percent to the benefit of the students,'' he said.

Scott, who openly supports charter schools and merit pay for teachers, visited Florida International Academy along with his newly named education advisor, nationally known educator, Michelle Rhee, calling the academy ``an example of a school doing it right.''

The school, which has 98 percent of its students on free or reduced lunch, became a double ``A'' school after having years of ``F'' scores. See story and photos here.
