The ties that bind: Rubio and Rivera edition

Here's an extra nugget of information regarding our story Sunday about investigators probing Rep. David Rivera's expensive "thank you" campaigns: Alyn Cruz Higgins, whose now-defunct company received $75,000 in thank-you money from Rivera's dormant state senate campaign account last year, is now working at the Miami office of Sen. Marco Rubio. (That's according to Higgins' attorney, Robert Fernandez, and to Rubio spokesman Alex Burgos.)

Rubio, of course, is a close Rivera friend and ally. And Higgins, who used to worked for Miami lobbyist Steve Marin, is the daughter of longtime Rivera aide Alina Garcia, who is expected to head up Rivera's congressional office in Miami.
