The Broward Democrat was among a group of Democrats who raised money Tuesday night for the injured Arizona congresswoman's reelection campaign.
"I've been protecting her flank politically," said Wasserman Schultz, who is intent on making sure Giffords has a hefty account for her next election.
Wasserman Schultz's name has been bandied about as a potential successor to DNC chief Tim Kaine, who is said to be leaning toward running for the Senate from Virginia. But The Hill reports Wasserman Schultz brushed off inquiries about her interest in the job.
"I understand there is a DNC chairman at the moment," she said.
