Republicans tout GOP-leaning poll that shows Allen West with a lead

National Republicans are circulating a blog item about a poll that suggests Broward Republican Allen West has a wide lead over his Democratic challenger Lois Frankel.

That could be -- but the item doesn't note that the polling firm that did the poll, ViewPoint Florida, has close ties to Florida Republicans. The firm on its website says its a "public opinion research project" between Data Targeting Inc. and Public Concepts, LLC, but doesn't note that both are entitities are longtime consultants to Florida Republicans. Data Targeting's president is Pat Bainter -- one of the top recipients of Republican Party of Florida cash. Public Concepts is a West Palm Beach Republican campaign firm affiliated with (in the words of a previous blog item) "attack-meister" Randy Nielsen.

The poll -- the third Viewpoint has done -- says West tops Frankel by 15 points. It comes as former Rep. Ron Klein -- whom West defeated -- says he won't run again in 2012 against West.
