Miami-Dade legislative delegation keeps chairman, will select vice-chair this week

State Rep. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, the Miami Republican and House majority leader, was automatically reelected to another term as chairman of the Miami-Dade legislative delegation Friday after not drawing any opposition.

Lopez-Cantera, who took over the delegation role last year, was nominated by state Rep. Eddy Gonzalez, R-Hialeah.

Lawmakers will meet Wednesday in Tallahassee to select a vice-chair. The candidates are Rep. Jose Felix Diaz, a sophomore nominated by fellow Miami Republican Rep. Michael Bileca, and Rep. Dwight Bullard, D-South Miami-Dade, who threw his own name in the hat. Bullard announced last week that he will be running next year for the Senate seat being vacated by his mother, Sen. Larcenia Bullard.

The vice-chair last year was Sen. Anitere Flores, R-Miami.
