Politics is a contact sport: North Miami mayoral candidate punched at campaign headquarters

A North Miami mayor candidate was attacked at his campaign headquarters by an acquaintance who was upset that he is seeking higher office.

North Miami police arrested the acquaintance Tuesday night for punching Councilman Jean Marcellus in the mouth after a heated discussion about the upcoming election.

Marcellus, one of seven candidates vying for mayor, said the man’s name is Felix and he knew him from when they worked in real estate together several years ago.

North Miami police did not immediately respond to a request for the suspect’s name, but confirmed there was an arrest.

“When he came last night, we were catching up on old times. Then he started to talk about the campaign,” said Marcellus. “That’s when he said, ‘You can’t win the race, you’re an m-fer,’ and he got really pissed.”
