Chip Iglesias, the deputy mayor who left Miami-Dade County Hall last week, has been hired by prominent lobbying firm.
Iglesias will chair the local government practice at Ballard Partners, a Tallahassee-based shop with offices across the state. He will be based in Miami.
“With his extensive background in city and county government, Chip will be an incredible asset to our team and will help achieve positive results for our clients,” firm president Brian Ballard, who is also a top Republican fundraiser, said in a statement.
When he submitted his resignation last month, Iglesias remained mum on where he would go next, saying only he would work in the private sector.
He had been widely rumored to join Ballard’s firm, which represented retired footballer David Beckham’s investment group in Tallahassee. Iglesias headed the county’s negotiations with Beckham over a potential soccer stadium, though those talks were not headed by Ballard’s team.
As a former Miami-Dade administrator, Iglesias will be banned from lobbying County Hall for two years.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join Ballard Partners,” Iglesias said.
