NextGen Climate Takes Rick Scott’s Ark To Miami
NextGen Climate Calls Out Rick Scott for Failing to Address Climate Change
MIAMI—NextGen Climate is calling out Florida Governor Rick Scott for continuing to ignore the threat of climate change. Rick Scott’s Ark will be visiting the Miami Dade Convention Center today, just prior to the upcoming Climate Leadership Summit on October 1st and 2nd.
“Florida has failed to step up on the issue of climate change although we are ground zero,” said Miami Dade County Commissioner, Daniella Levine Cava. "Meanwhile, communities like mine are struggling to deal with ever-rising tides and damaging floods as our sea levels rise. Fortunately we know what to do, and some of our local cities like Miami Beach are at the forefront of positive change."

This week, the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Compact is hosting its 6th Annual Leadership Summit. The summit is drawing national leaders, including the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Director, John Holdren.
With salt-water flooding already impacting many South Florida communities, local cities and counties are not waiting for the state – they are taking action now. The Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact was put in place by Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach Counties in January 2010 to coordinate activities to deal with the effects of climate change.
“Everybody in the world is watching Miami to see how we are going to adapt, and how we are going to act to make sure that we can keep living here, because this place is paradise,” said Celeste DePalma, who is an avid kayaker and Conservation Outreach Coordinator at the Tropical Audubon Society.
Governor Rick Scott’s only “solution” to climate change is build an ark so that he and his powerful supporters can escape Florida’s rising sea levels. NextGen Climate has taken the governor’s ark on the road, already visiting Tallahassee, Tampa, Orlando, and now Miami.
“Rick Scott’s Ark Tour” is to remind Floridians that Scott only cares about protecting his wealthy campaign contributors, while leaving Florida’s families and communities behind to tackle the rising seas on their own.
While Scott continues to deny the science of climate change, millions of Floridians are already stuck feeling its painful impacts. Follow “Rick Scott’s Ark Tour” at @RickScottsArk.
