Crisafulli announces new leadership posts

Incoming House Speaker Steve Crisafulli, R-Merritt Island, has made his picks for the top leadership positions.

Rep. Matt Hudson, R-Naples, will serve as speaker pro tempore.

Rep. Dana Young, R-Tampa, will be House Majority Leader.

Rep. Ritch Workman, R-Melbourne, will be the Rules and Calendar chairman.

Rep. Richard Corcoran, R-Trinity, will oversee the budget committee.

(All are expected to win re-election in November, but stranger things have happened.)

Corcoran has been tapped to be House speaker in 2016.

"Rep. Corcoran has a wealth of knowledge and expertise, having served both as a staff member and an elected representative," Crisafulli said in a statement. "His skills and experience will be well suited in his role as the chair of [the] Appropriations [Committee]."

Crisafulli added that he [Crisafulli] had been included "in the operations of the House" under outgoing House Speaker Will Weatherford.

"I intend to follow the same model during my tenure,” Crisafulli said.

Said incoming Senate President Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando: "Speaker-Designate Crisafulli has a talented team of House leaders who will be a great help to him over the next two years. My colleagues and I look forward to working with the Speaker-Designate and his team as we head towards the 2015 Legislative Session."
