Wife of Miami Commissioner files to campaign for his seat

As anticipated, the wife of term-limited Miami Commissioner Marc Sarnoff has filed to run for his District 2 commission seat.

Teresa Sarnoff opened a campaign account Tuesday, submitting paperwork just after noon. The Coconut Grove resident and licensed real estate associate with Cervera Real Estate told The Herald this summer she was mulling a run for her husband's seat, and would make a decision around the new  year.

Sarnoff faces opposition from activist Grace Solares, radio producer Rosa Maria Palomino, and fellow Groveite Mike Simpson. The position represents Miami's downtown, Brickell, the Grove and other coastal neighborhoods.

Teresa Sarnoff may enter the race with a substantial war chest of soft money. Her husband's electioneering communications organization, Truth is the Daughter of Time, held close to $250,000 as of the first of the month. Commissioner Sarnoff has not indicated yet why he is raising the money, but by law, ECOs are created to back or oppose candidates.
