Hillary Clinton campaign hires Florida press secretary

Gearing up for Florida's March 15 primary, Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign announced Wednesday that it has named a press secretary who will focus solely on the state.

Mahen Gunaratna will run Florida communications. He knows South Florida well: Gunaratna is  a past communications director for U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Miami Gardens. Before that, he had worked as press secretary and U.S. Senate campaign research director for former U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, D-Miami.

Gunaratna got involved in presidential politics in 2012, as New Mexico and Arizona communications director for President Obama's reelection campaign. He's most recently worked as research director for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
