Carlos Lopez-Cantera has scored another major legislative endorsement for his U.S. Senate bid.

State Senate President Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando, is supporting the lieutenant governor, his campaign announced Tuesday.

“In Florida, Carlos has been a leader in limiting government’s influence into the lives of everyday Floridians and the result has created less taxes, less regulation, and more freedom for citizens to achieve economic independence," Gardiner said in a a statement. "Carlos has a record of conservative leadership focused on delivering results, which contrasts with the empty Washington rhetoric we have become accustomed to."

Gardiner joins House Speaker Steve Crisafulli, R-Merritt Island, who endorsed Lopez-Cantera last week.

Lopez-Cantera is one of five Republicans in the crowded field to replace Marco Rubio. He's running against congressmen David Jolly, R-Indian Shores, and Ron DeSantis, R-Ponte Vedra Beach, Orlando defense contractor Todd Wilcox and Bradenton homebuilder Carlos Beruff.
