U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio is doing significantly better than Donald Trump among Hispanic voters, a key that is helping him stay ahead of Democrat Patrick Murphy a new public poll released by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research.
Overall the Rubio was leading Murphy 47 percent to 40 among the 820 likely voters polled from Sept. 27 to Sept. 29. The margin of error in the poll was plus or minus 3.5 percent.
Among 133 people who identified themselves as Hispanic or Cuban, Rubio was leading 53 percent to 38 percent, according to the poll. In the presidential race, Hillary Clinton leads among that group 64 percent to 29 percent.
Murphy last week began to ramp up his efforts to reach Hispanic voters. He released new Spanish-language ads last week, hire Miami strategist Freddy Balsera to boost his Hispanic outreach, and started this week off by meeting with immigration activists in Orlando.
