As they entered Port Everglades, sailors aboard the USS Gunston Hall were greeted by flag-waving residents Les and Georgi Stockel and Madelyn McGarry. About 40 people hiked to the jetty on the north side of the Port Everglades Inlet while approx twice that many viewed the ships from the south at John U. Lloyd State Park in Dania Beach.
