Nice idea. Don't want to spend weeks chatting with someone only to realise it the ex.

After a breakup it is a good idea to completely drop out of your exes life for a while, but be careful of what you do in a moment of anger or hurt. Ever hear of divorced people remarrying, sometimes even years later? I guess the moral is people do get back together, so take care in using any permanent actions.
