ITWomen, an organization dedicated to increasing the number of girls and women in the fields of technology and engineering, is expanding its reach with the formation of the ITWomen NextGen Chapter at Florida International University. The chapter’s inaugural event will take place on Monday, April 7, from 4:30 to 630 p.m. at FIU’s South Campus and will feature a panel discussion led by distinguished South Florida women in IT surrounding the theme "Opportunities and Challenges for Women Working in Technology.”
ITWomen has had a long history of encouraging aspiring young ladies who have an interest in pursuing careers in the information technology and engineering fields. The organization has awarded more than $328,000 in scholarships to 67 deserving young women across the tri-country area since the fund’s launch in 2004. Further, through ITWomen’s Role Model speakers program, the organization has been able to reach 2,434 students last year alone (1,588 girls and 846 boys), with 23,000 students to date across public schools and non-profit at-risk youth partners in South Florida. With the formation of the ITWomen NextGen Chapter, ITWomen is now expanding its reach to university level students.
“We are beyond excited to be launching our ITWomen NextGen Chapter at FIU. This is particularly special as the FIU College of Business Administration was one of our four original supporters,” said Victoria Usherenko, president of ITWomen.
