Shiver leases former Virgin Megastore location at Sunset Place

Shiver Entertainment, a new video game development firm led by industry veteran and former Zynga and EA Tiburon executive John Schappert, has leased 16,000 square feet on the second floor of The Offices at Sunset Place. The lease marks one of the largest new-to-market tech firms to enter Miami in recent years.

The Shops at Sunset Place is jointly owned by an affiliate of Simon Property Group and Institutional Mall Investors, LLC. Tere Blanca, Alison Pages and Alexander Cahlin of Blanca Commercial Real Estate, which serves as the exclusive leasing broker for the mixed-use property’s 100,000 square foot office component, The Offices at Sunset Place, represented the owners in the transaction. Jacque Huttoe of the Huttoe Group represented Shiver Entertainment.

Shiver, which is the word for a pack of sharks, expects to hire about 60 employees by the time the studio opens late this year, the company said. The firm’s new space, where Virgin Megastore once was, will be designed by G. Alvarez Studio’s Gigi Alvarez and Christian Vidal, and will include meeting and quiet rooms, 50-foot high, exposed ceilings, open-plan areas, an arcade, several social areas — and possibly some sharks.

“We’re going to turn it into a state-of-the art game studio – or, basically, an ultra-modern office space that encourages creativity, collaboration and fun,” said Schappert.
