High-ranking official to Lubbock paper: Hocutt has been offered Texas Tech AD job

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal has been told by a high-ranking Texas Tech official that University of Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt has been offered the Texas Tech athletic director's job.

Hocutt, who was in Texas Wednesday and Thursday, now must make his decision as to whether to leave the Hurricanes.

He took the Miami job in February 2008. He grew up in Sherman, Texas, about a five-hour drive from Lubbock. As of three years ago, Hocutt's parents lived in a suburb of Dallas.

Current Texas Tech AD Gerald Myers will retire at the end of May.
